Singer, Charles - The Earliest Chemical Industry, an essay (Published in by The Folio Society in 1948. "An essay in the historical relations of economics and technology illustrated from the alum trade" to give it its full title. One of a limited edition of 100 copies bound in full red morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe (the remaining 1000 copies were bound in cloth). Printed by the Chiswick Press on cream Arnold mould-made paper. The book was commissioned from Charles Ede in the early days of the Folio Society by Peter Spence and sons to mark their centenary. In addition to the frontispiece, the book contains 181 numbered figures, including five further plates (all but one in colour) and 3 colour lithographic illustrations pasted to the text pages. Signed by the author and Derek Spence. Also included is a single sheet insert about the cventenary of the company signed by Derek Spence. Bound in red leather with five raised bands to the spine. Spine titles in gilt with the date (1948) in gilt to the bottom of the spine. )
