A folio collection of classic 'gothic' novels of the type scathingly referred to in Jane Austen's 'Northanger Abbey' as 'horrid novels'. The seven volume set comprises: 'Horrid Mysteries', by K. F. A. Grosse; 'The Necromancer' by K. F. Kahlert; 'The Midnight Bell', by F. Lathom; 'Castle of Wolfenbach', and 'The Mysterious Warning', by E. Parsons; 'Clermont', by R. M. Roche and 'The Orphan of the Rhine', by E. Sleath. These were the kind of novels parodied by Jane Austen in Northanger Abbey. One of the hardest Folio Society items to find. )
